Copyright

Copyright law protects the creator/owner of an image from improper use by others. An example of coyright law would be if you take a photograph or create a graphic image in photoshop this means that it is yours, you own the copyright automactically. Also you don't need to apply for copyright. Copyright will last until the death of the creator plus 70 years. Copyright holder(s) may grant permission or license to anyone else to use their content/work.

If you are using information of the Internet you need to ensure that it is copyright free for use in your images, e.g some of the downloadable free backgrounds and textures that had been provided. If the copyright is not free to use make sure that you ask the creator/owner for permission or license.

If you take a photograph, or create a graphic in eg Photoshop, it’s yours, you own the copyright, automatically. You don’t need to apply for copyright.

However if the photograph/graphic was commissioned by a third party, or taken as part of your job in employment, copyright is owned by the third party or your employer. The exceptions of copyright law are fair dealing, library privilege, copying for examinations and copying or instruction.
